Clan Ebor was the name given to the an initiative by the Home Office to force families with refused asylum status to return to the countries they escaped from.
Under the scheme 60 families in West Yorkshire had their situation reviewed. They were invited to a 'case conference' where the whole family, children included, were reminded of exactly why they have no right, according to the Home Office, to be in the UK.
The Home Office targetted families from some of the most dangerous countries on earth, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Iran. Many of the families have been living in the UK for more than five years and, if deported, face abuse, torture and in some cases death.
The initiative ended in January. None of the 60 families opted to return voluntarily. The exercise was a pointless attempt to initimidate and coerce vulnerable people to return to their country of origin. As such it was another example of the UK Governments inhumane treatment of asylum seekers, with no regard for human rights.
No one is illegal. Asylum is a right.
